Why should I choose a OneNote planner?
If you have a wide selection of devices that you plan to use for digital planning, there is truly only one application that will sync across all of these devices and that is OneNote. In addition, your notebook will be available online anywhere where you have internet browser access.
However, it’s worth noting that even if it’s the most compatible OneNote adds another layer of complexity during installation and operation. That’s why the detailed instructions and FAQ sections have been created. So that you are covered from the very beginning and enjoy your planner to its fullest.
What is a digital planner?
A digital planner is just like a paper planner but instead of paper, it is in a OneNote notebook or a PDF file (which stands for portable document format). It’s a planner for your tablet, iPad, or computer.
Simply put, s digital planner is a more portable version of a paper planner and in general, can be synced across different devices. They are filled with hyperlinks, which allow you to tap the tabs, buttons, icons, text, etc., to jump between the pages of the planner which means 10x time saving compared to the traditional, page-flipping method.
The PDF planners can then be imported into apps that allow you to ‘mark up’ PDF files. You’re probably already familiar with Adobe Reader (like on your computer), but you can import PDFs into apps like GoodNotes, Notability, Noteshelf, and others. The OneNote templates are compatible with the OneNote app installed on different devices. (For best results, please download the full version for free from OneNote’s website.)
What do I need to use the planners in your store?
To use a OneNote planner, you need a free, personal Microsoft account and OneNote, a free program available for download on Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android from here. OneNote notebooks cannot be imported to a business account, school account, or SharePoint, but workaround tips are available under a different section dedicated to Microsoft business or school accounts.
All OneNote planners need to be imported to your OneDrive account before you can use them. A video detailing this process is available here. This is a one-time process that should be completed on a computer.
Your OneNote files will then be saved on OneDrive, which can then sync across all your devices with OneNote installed. Due to the significant number of pages, pictures, and hyperlinks used in some of the planners please check the file size before importing and ensure you have enough space on your OneDrive. Every free, personal Microsoft account comes with 5 GB of OneDrive storage space.
Also, if you use the planner on a tablet/iPad a stylus will be extremely handy as links on these devices work only in case you click precisely on them.
I have a Microsoft OneNote Business/School account. Can I still use your planners?
Microsoft currently only allows OneNote notebooks to be imported to personal Microsoft accounts. However, you can try the different workarounds below if you would like to use your new planner with a business or school Microsoft account. Option 1 and 2 are the simplest workarounds, but try Option 3 if neither option worked for you.
Option 1: Use the .onepkg File
This method only works for Windows users with specific versions of OneNote. Please refer to the section about OneNote package files for more information.
Option 2: Share the Notebook with Your Business Account
- Import the OneNote notebook to a personal Microsoft account by following the PDF guide that came with your purchase or by following the video tutorial here.
- Share your planner with your business account. You have to give your business account editing rights so that you can edit the notebook from your business account.
- For Windows users with a paid version of OneNote, follow this article.

Option 3: Copy sections to a new notebook
Do I need an active Microsoft 365 subscription to use your planners?
No, you don’t need a Microsoft 365 subscription. Your OneNote files will be saved on OneDrive, which will be synchronized across all your devices with OneNote installed. Every free, personal Microsoft account comes with 5 GB of OneDrive storage. Please check your OneNote planner’s file size and ensure you have enough space on your OneDrive.
Do you accept refunds, returns or exchanges?
Due to the non-returnable and non-tangible nature of digital products, once they are downloaded, returns and exchanges are not accepted. Before making a purchase, please review the FAQ’s and product descriptions carefully.
If you have any questions or concerns with your order, please message me and I will get back to you shortly.

Can your OneNote planners be used in dark mode?
The OneNote planners in the shop are designed with a white background and therefore not optimized for dark mode. We are currently developing black layout variations for all our designs but till those are launched you can try the following workaround:
Go To File Tab – Options
Select the “Dark Grey” theme. This way everything will still stay very readable and you will keep the „dark layout” experience.

Troubleshooting
OneNote error: The import page is blank
If the page is blank when you try to access the online OneNote Notebook Importer, it may be because your language is not set to English. To do this, you can go to onenote.com to change your language first, then try accessing the OneNote Notebook Importer again.
Why does my planner take forever to import?
Since some OneNote planners have large file sizes, it may take a few minutes to upload depending on your internet speed. If the upload is taking hours or it seemingly never ends, there are a couple of possible reasons:
– You may not have enough space on your OneDrive. All personal accounts come with 5 GB, and Microsoft Office 365 accounts come with at least 1 TB. Please check the file size of your OneNote planner and make sure you have enough space on your OneDrive.
– Try importing the files on a computer and not a mobile device. It would allow you to save your files to a more easily-accessible location.
– Try using a different browser and/or incognito mode. For example, if you are a Mac user using Safari, try using Google Chrome instead.
– Make sure pop-ups are enabled for your browser. If your browser blocks pop-ups automatically, then the upload may not be completed and your notebook may appear to be importing endlessly. Please make sure you click “Upload” when the pop-up window below appears.
– Using a .onepkg file. This method only works for Windows users with specific versions of OneNote. Please refer to the section about OneNote Package files for more information.
– Copying the sections to a new notebook. This process takes a bit longer (not that much though!) but will get the job done if no other methods work. Please refer to this section for more information on the process. You can contact me directly for a file-sharing link so that you can copy the sections from a blank copy of the notebook.
OneNote error: Microsoft Account doesn't exist
If you received the error message below when you tried to sign into your account before the import process, you are likely trying to use a SharePoint or business account. Microsoft only allows OneNote planners to be imported to personal Microsoft accounts. Please use a free personal account instead, or refer to the workaround tips found in the section about Microsoft OneNote Business/School accounts section.
OneNote error: "Cannot edit workbook because it's in archive (read-only) mode."
When that error message appears, usually it’s caused by the following reasons:
- You manually moved or saved the .one files (OneNote files) to your OneDrive account. For example, did you drag and drop the .one files to OneDrive? If that’s the case, please follow the online importing process described in the installation video to ensure that the notebook is imported properly.
- You directly opened the .one files from your download folder. This may cause the file to not work properly, so please follow the online importing process.
If that wasn’t the case for you, then you can try some solutions below:
Option 1: Open the Notebook Through OneDrive or web
- Close the notebook on your OneNote program on your desktop and wherever else you have it open (i.e. iPad, tablet, phone, web browser).
- Head over to onedrive.live.com or www.onenote.com/notebooks. You may need to sign into the Microsoft account you had imported the planner to first if you aren’t already signed in.
- Find the planner you had imported and double-click on it to open it within your web browser.
- On the menu bar, click on the “Editing” button and select “Open in Desktop App”. This should open the notebook in your OneNote program. Make sure you close the browser page once you are finished.
Option 2: Use a .onepkg File
A .onepkg file is a OneNote file that will allow you to directly open and save the OneNote notebook, but this is only possible if you’re on a Windows device and have an eligible version of OneNote. Refer to this section for more information.
Option 3: Sharing the Notebook with Another Account
You can try sharing the notebook with yourself by sharing it with another Microsoft account you own to see if that fixes the issue. Make sure you give your secondary account editing rights so that you can edit the notebook from your secondary account.
- For Windows users with a paid version of OneNote, follow this article.
- For Windows users with OneNote for Windows 10, follow this article.
- For MacOS users, follow this article.
- For iOS users, follow this article.
Option 4: Copying the Sections to a New Notebook
What do I have to do with the .onepkg files you've shared?
A .onepkg file is a so-called OneNote package file that will load the complete notebook on OneNote. It’s very handy when it comes to installation, however, not all versions of OneNote can open this file.
These versions of OneNote CAN open a .onepkg file:
- “OneNote 2013”, “OneNote 2016”, or “OneNote 2021” that comes with a Microsoft Office perpetual license or Microsoft 365 subscription on a Windows computer
- OneNote that comes with Windows 11
These versions of OneNote CANNOT open a .onepkg file:
- All Mac users
- OneNote for Windows 10 (the free version that comes with Windows 10) – We recommend that you download the FREE, full version from OneNote directly:
If are on a Windows computer with an eligible version of OneNote described above, message me for a .onepkg file. Follow the instructions below to use it:
- Download the .onepkg file and double-click on it. The OneNote program on your computer will open.
- The pop-up window shown below will appear. By clicking on the dropdown menu you can select the Microsoft account you would like to sync the OneNote notebook to. You can save it to a personal, business, or school account, or you can save it locally on your device. You can also change the name and color of the notebook.
NOTE: If you do not see your account, make sure you are signed into your desired Microsoft account on OneNote. You can do this by clicking your name or email address shown on the top right corner of OneNote next to the minimize button, then click on click on “Sign in with a different account” or “Add Account”.
- Once you’re ready, click on the “Create” button. The notebook will open in OneNote, but give it a few minutes to allow all the pages to fully populate. If you see highlighting and initials throughout the notebook like in the screenshot below, please refer to the relevant FAQ section for more information.
How can I copy notebook sections to a new notebook?
If you are having trouble with your download and none of the troubleshooting methods on this page worked, you can try this method. I will share a fresh copy of the planner you’ve purchased, and you will manually copy over the notebook sections to a new notebook you’ve created on your end. This should only take a few minutes, depending on how many sections are in your purchased planner.
- To get started, create a new notebook on OneNote on your computer. Make sure it is saved to the Microsoft account you would like to save your new planner to.
- Message me to give you a file-sharing OneDrive link. Once you click on it, the OneNote notebook will open in your browser.
- Click on the purple button that says “Viewing” located at the top of the page. From the dropdown menu, click on “Open in Desktop App”.
- You should either be redirected to the OneNote program on your desktop, or a pop-up window will appear titled “Open OneNote?”. It should read: “https://onenote.officeapps.live.com wants to open this application.” Click on the “Open OneNote” button to be redirected to the OneNote program on your desktop.
- Make sure you have the new notebook you created earlier and the shared notebook open on OneNote at the same time. Navigate to the shared notebook, right-click on the first notebook section, and click on “Move or Copy…”.
NOTE: The notebook sections should be located horizontally across the top of the page, or listed vertically.
- A should pop up. Select the new notebook you’ve created, and then click “Copy”.
- Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until you have copied all the sections over to your new notebook. You can rearrange these sections by clicking and dragging them to your desired location.
- NOTE: If your planner contains section groups, you will not be able to copy an entire section group over. You will need to manually copy the sections inside the sections group, then create a new section group by right-clicking on a section and selecting “New Section Group”. You can then drag and drop the sections into the new section group.
- If you see highlighting and initials click on the “History” tab and click on “Hide Authors” to get rid of it. You can refer to the FAQ section here for more details.
Why can't I move any objects to the very left of the OneNote page?
Snap to grid is a feature in OneNote that helps you align objects such as text boxes, shapes, images, etc. to a grid on the page. It can make your notes look neater and more organized.
However, if it’s active in your OneNote instance you might notice that in our digital planners when you try and create a textbox on a page where the text should be positioned at the very left side of the page and you try and move around the textbox it somehow “stops” at the same imaginary vertical line that you could draw from the page’s title. The same can happen if you try and move pictures around. It’s because that’s an automatic grid in OneNote.
To quickly fix this hold down the Alt key while dragging the object around the page.
For a permanent fix go to “Draw Tab” in the Toolbar, click on Draw then click on the down arrow in the Shapes Section, and click Snap to Grid to disable the feature.
OneNote hyperlinks don't work on phone or tablet
Hyperlinks seemingly work best on OneNote for desktops. In the app for phones and tablets, they don’t work as smoothly unless you tap directly on the hyperlinked texts to prompt the open link pop-up.
It’s best to use a stylus instead of your finger, or you can zoom in to make it easier to tap right on the link with your finger.
If the hyperlinks don’t seem to work at all, please force quit your OneNote, then restart it.
